The Mail on Sunday launched in May 1982, You magazine, one of the market's first colour supplements, followed six months later.
Over the years we added to our brand portfolio to meet the demands of the market: Financial Mail tapped into the growing need for sound financial advice; Night & Day first appeared as a review section and then morphed into a more topical, celebrity-led easy read; You magazine reinvented itself as the first women's magazine in the national press and continues to keep pace with the increasingly competitive women's magazine market. Property first appeared as a monthly supplement in late 2001 and reader reaction ensured it quickly moved to weekly frequency. The launches of Football on Sunday in 2004 and Live magazine in 2005 addressed the male market, attracting new readers.
Behind the scenes, a continuous programme of investment in print ensures high-quality on the run colour and increasing pagination, culminating in the opening of our latest facility which allows us to print two, full-size, full-colour newsprint sections. In 2008 we launched The Mail on Sunday2, our lively, colourful lifestyle section, incorporating a news review, critical arts and ents coverage, travel, health and property.
In January 2010, following a programme of reader research, we made further upgrades to the package: Live magazine is now larger, printed on better paper and with increased pagination; Review is the new title for TMoS2, printed on premium quality paper and beefing up the arts & ents coverage; sport gets its own pull-out section - Sport on Sunday - and travel moves into the heart of the main section of the paper.
Welcome to the future.
